Charter of the Hebrew Ladies' Benevolent Society of K. K. Adath Israel, Amberley, Ohio
Printed charter of the Hebrew Ladies' Benevolent Society of K. K. Adath Israel, Amberley, Ohio, dated April 1, 1864. The charter includes a vignette of Rebecca at the well and signatures of Johanna Davis (President), Maria Tobias, Mary Flohr, Kate Levy, Fanny Levison, and Leo Levy. This is considered the first formal women's benevolent society of Adath Israel. The charter measures 11.5" x 14.5". A companion piece, a silver presentation bowl presented to President Johanna Davis on July 24, 1880, is also noted. The charter was displayed at a Library of Congress exhibit in Cincinnati in 2005.
