His parents were George David Rosengarten and Elizabeth Bennet. Rosengarten and his family were included in Malcolm Stern's First American Jewish Families. His death was reported on by The Israelite, which stated: "Major Rosengarten, of the Philadelphia cavalry, who fell in the engagement near Nashville, was an Israelite and was buried in Philadelphia, agreeably to the rites and customs of Israel."
