Subject: Portrait prints

Engraving depicting Uriah P. Levy in full uniform, created by C. Girard in 1833. The engraving is considered one of the best likenesses of Levy in existence and may have been commissioned during his two-year stay in Paris. Levy is known for commissioning a statue of Thomas Jefferson from Pierre Jean David d'Angers during this time.

Levytype Company portrait of Hyman Gratz, a prominent Philadelphia merchant and philanthropist. The oval portrait shows Gratz in a seated pose, with a facsimile signature. The print measures 6" x 9", with the image itself being 3.5" x 4.5". Created circa 1880 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Lithograph portrait of Joshua Abraham Norton in military uniform, carrying a sword. The reverse features an inscription in brown ink: "JOSHUA A. NORTON/DIED JANY 8, 1880/AGED ABOUT 65/NORTON 1ST/EMEROR OF THE U.S./AND PROTECTOR OF MEXICO." The lithograph depicts the famous San Francisco eccentric.

This trade card advertises J. Wimmer, a clothing merchant in Los Gatos, California. The front of the card features a portrait of President Martin Van Buren.  Below the portrait, the text indicates the business's location on East Main Street. The back of the card is blank. There is a second image in the record, but it is not described.
