Pamphlet describing a panorama of Jerusalem painted by Robert Burford from drawings by Frederick Catherwood. First published in Boston in 1837, this is considered the first American contemporary print of Jerusalem. This edition, printed in Boston in 1837, measures 6" x 9", contains 12 pages with original printed wrappers, and includes a 12 x 15 inch folding plate depicting Jerusalem under Ottoman rule. The text provides a key to 71 sights within the panorama. Between 1825 and 1855, Burford created numerous panoramas for public exhibition. This Jerusalem panorama is notable for being based on drawings by the then-unknown Frederick Catherwood, who later illustrated John Lloyd Stephens's *Incidents of Travel in Central America, Chiapas, and Yucatan*. A later printing from New York (1839) is also referenced in the provided description.
