Subject: Needlework

Genealogical sampler created by Adelia Louzada on April 26, 1834, under the tutelage of Miss N. Clark. The sampler includes genealogical information about the Louzada family, particularly Isaac Louzada and his descendants. It features an Empire period decorative motif and a non-denominational poem. The sampler was cleaned and museum-mounted by D. Mc Coach in Allentown, PA.

Sampler created by Betsy Leon in 1838. The sampler depicts a house and landscape, similar in style to other Baltimore samplers from the period. The sampler is framed in its original frame with old wavy glass, with an outer frame added later for display. This is an example of Judaica Americana. The item includes biographical information on both the artist, Betsy Leon and another sampler maker Sarah Benjamin.

Sampler created by Esther Nathan on July 23, 1832, at the age of 13. Esther Nathan later became the mother of Emma Lazarus. The sampler features an interesting visual format with horizontal bands, a candle snuffer, basket, verse, and Hebrew lettering. The Hebrew text translates approximately to: "In the Name of God...in the (Hebrew) year 5592.....4th day of Auv...for (Mr.) Moses." This item is described as a great rarity. Moses Lazarus married Esther Nathan in New York City on November 11, 1840. Their daughter, Emma Lazarus, the famous poet, was born in New York City on July 22, 1849.

The card also states that the business provides stamping and embroidering services. The back of the card is blank.
