An 1859 "Colton's New Map of the State of Texas," compiled from Jacob De Cordova's map. The map depicts Texas in its largest configuration prior to the Compromise of 1850, extending north to Wyoming, with various counties highlighted in different colors. Decorative elements include an ornate, elaborate border framing the map and inset maps for "Plan of Galveston Bay" and "Plan of Sabine Lake." The reverse side features text titled "The State of Arkansas and the Indian Territory." This map served as a promotional tool for land speculation.
