The letter explains the necessity of the society as Dembitz perceived it. Dembitz was the first delegate to vote for Lincoln's nomination as President of the USA. A lawyer, he was an early Zionist and Orthodox Jew. The uncle of Justice Brandeis, he had an important influence on his career.
