Carte-de-visite (CDV) portrait of Madeline Henriques. The photograph shows a full sitting view of Henriques. The imprint of Charles D. Fredricks & Co., New York City, NY is visible on the back of the card mount. Handwritten in old ink on the back: "Miss Madeline Henriques New York City". Madeline Henriques made her theatrical debut in "The Model Hypocrite" in 1860 at Wallack's Theatre in Manhattan. Her father was David H. Henriques of the West Indies. In 1867, she married Louis Jennings, who became editor of the New York Times from 1870 to 1876, and played a key role in exposing the Tweed Ring. The photograph is dated circa 1860s.
