The Wonderful and Most Deplorable History of the Latter Times of the Jews: with the Destruction of the City of Jerusalem. First American Edition, 1803

First American edition of Josephus Ben Gorion's abstract of a disputed work known as "Yosippon" or "Josippon", a chronicle of Jewish history from Adam to the age of Titus. Published in Leominster, Massachusetts by Adams & Wilder for Isaiah Thomas, Jr. in March 1803. This rare English version offers a legendary account with potential ancient sources, having enjoyed much vogue in England and forming a link in the chain of events leading to the readmission of Jews to England under Oliver Cromwell. The book features an original binding with a black label on the spine, minimal foxing, a table of chief places, and a one-page advertisement. Contains a contemporary brown ink inscription: "Rusha Howe her book", Amsterdam."
