Pre-Civil War Trade Token of E. Jacobs, Daguerreotypist, New Orleans

Brass trade token from the pre-Civil War era belonging to E. Jacobs, a daguerreotypist in New Orleans, Louisiana. The obverse depicts E. Jacobs's name surrounding a bust of Liberty. The reverse shows "Daguerreotype Saloon. 93 Camp St. N.O." around an eagle. The token measures 29mm. E. Jacobs was in business from 1851-1859 and was succeeded by L.S. Lipman. The token's silvered brass is noted. A reference to E. Jacobs's involvement with the Hebrew Benevolent Association of New Orleans is found in an 1848 article from *The Occident*. The article describes the association's annual election and an anniversary ball held on March 20th, 1848, noting E. Jacobs among its managers.
