Carte de visite (CDV) photograph depicting Julius Meyer posing with seven Indigenous individuals. The photograph was used by Meyer in his business to demonstrate his relationships with various tribes. The CDV is signed by Meyer, and his label is on the back. Meyer, born in Bromberg, Prussia on March 30, 1839, emigrated to Nebraska in 1867. He reportedly lived with the Sioux for several years after being captured during a buffalo hunt, learned to speak six Indigenous languages, and served as an interpreter to Congress and an Indian agent. He also operated a curio shop called "The Indian Wigwam" on Farnham Street, advertising himself as "Box-ka-re-she-hash-ta-ka" Indian Trader, Interpreter and Dealer in Indian Curios.
