Zellner & Co., the business became one of the most stable retail and wholesale shoe firms in the South, surviving the economic downturns following the 1879 revocation of the city's charter. Beyond retail, Zellner’s primary partnership was with the German Bank of Memphis,as a director. He was both a leader in both the Jewish and general Community. Notably, in the Yellow Fever 1878 Crisis: During the most severe outbreak in 1878, which saw over 5,000 fatalities, Zellner remained active in the city's relief infrastructure.
