The Header on the document is printed. Abraham and Mordecai Myers, born in Newport, R. I., the sons of a Hungarian Jew, came to New York with their family in 1780 with the British evacuation. After a brief time in Canada, they returned to New York in 1787. They moved to Richmond thereafter for a short time before business prospects returned them to New York in 1792 where they became merchants and auctioneers. Mordecai would become a trustee of Shearith Israel and when the War of 1812 broke out he was commissioned a captain in the United States army. He would later serve in the New York State Assembly and become the first Jewish mayor of Schenectady.
