Silver Kiddush Cup - PRESENTATION PIECE.....American Coin Silver Repousse Presentation Goblet, Tifft & Whiting, North Attleboro, MA, act. 1840-1853, scroll cartouche with engraved presentation by the members of the Shiloh Lodge No. 17, I.O.B.B. Albany, NY, h. 5 1/8 in., wt. 3.70 troy ozs. Note: The Shiloh Lodge, Number 17, IOBB (International Order of B’nai B’rirh or Brotherhood of the Covenant) was organized in Albany, NY on December 11, 1853. It was involved in the social, cultural and philanthropic activities of the Jewish community. The inscription has been polished down a bit but here is what I can read, “ Presented to J. Lewin, by the (can’t read this word) Shiloh Lodge No. 17 (can’t read this word but specialists notes possibly I.O.B.B) Albany Apr 17th 1854”. Joseph Lewin was the Rabbi of Beth El Jacob in 1853. The second Jewish congregation in Albany was Beth El Jacob. It came into existence after eight families broke away from Beth El due to internal conflicts regarding orthodoxy. It was the city’s only orthodox sect and was incorporated on February 22, 1841.
