Stereoview - USA New Orleans The French Market by Theo Lilienthal Lilienthal , Theodore ...son of Max & Clara Lilienthal (both buried in Jewish Cemetary N.O.)...listed on Ship's record from Germany to N.O.....note on common Google search he is not listed as a son. Research by Laura Eckstein, Phd candidate at U of P..."The image is of the manifest from Bremen of the Lilienthal family. Shows a young (27) Theo Lilienthal coming to New Orleans from Bremen with parents (Clara and M.W. (Marx)) and siblings. The manifest connects Theo Lilienthal to his parents. Parents are Jewish and buried (for sure mother) in Jewish cemetery per cemetery records." The image pictures the seven young, Union Officer (three seated and four standing) all wearing frock coats with shoulder bars, posed with a young man wearing a white linen jacket and ¾ length white apron. Although the officers are not identified in any way, they all look like that have been doing some rather hard drinking and all strike relaxed poses. My best guess is that the friends decided to have their picture taken after enjoying a few drinks and coerced the bartender / waiter (who has a rather frightened look on his face) to join them for the the portrait!!... This wonderful, CDV Photograph came from the legendary Brown Water Navy Collection of Richard B. Cohen. This rare and original, albumen CDV Photograph is in very good condition. The Photograph exhibits sharp focus and good contrast and tonality.
