Numerous Jews are listed...particularly in San Francisco #1 founded in 1854. The Grand Lodge of California was established in Sacramento in 1850, a few months before California became a state. A decade later, California Freemasonry had over 5,000 members. Of particular Adolphus Hollub was active at high levels in California’s Masons....He was elected Senior Grand Warden of California Masonry, one of the highest offices in 1852. His name is found throughout this book. Hollub developed great expertise with the laws of the Masonic movement. He visited Masonic Lodges throughout the State giving instruction on the Masonic ritual.
