Note that all male residents aged 17 through 49, are required to serve, unless they are physically unable or are officials of any public religious institutions, including regents and treasurers (1824) or the rabbis of the Jewish community (1835), if they do not wish to serve. These documents show how important the local Jewish communities are. The two Jewish communities are the only religious groups that are explicitly mentioned.
