Letter -Rev. Moses N. Nathan to John Simon...as a note, while there are numerous correspondence between Rabbi Isaac Leeser of Philadelphia, to my knowledge there are no existent letters between Rev. Nathan and a congregant in Jamacia. This Archive holds 10 detailed and important letters to Simon dealing with religious subjects starting in 1838 and ending in 1843....This letter is 07/22/1842. Rev. Moses N. Nathan was rabbi of the English and German synagogue at the time of the consecration of its new building in 1837, and for a number of years thereafter, and was active in various Jewish literary controversies and undertakings, including the editorship of a Jewish monthly, called "First Fruits of the West" (1845). Of Dutch origin, Moses N. Nathan (1801-83) was Rabbi in Kingston and St. Thomas for two decades before accepting a position in 1850 to serve the pulpit in New Orleans and later Charleston.
