Programme and Ticket - (NOTE TWO PIECES) of the Masonic Ball, given to the Members of Montgomery Lodge, No. 11, for the Benefit of Their Widows' and Orphans' Fund, Wednesday, Feb. 7th, 1866 [cover title] … Published by the lodge], [Montgomery, AL, 1866. Two of the 9-man Committee are Jewish…Jacob Myer and Samuel.Cellner. Throughout the mid-to late 19th Century this lodge had Jewish membership. Small bi-folium (11 cm). Title page verso with a 2-part dancing schedule interrupted by "Supper," integral leaf with spaces to record partners for the 18 dances [unused], verso with lists of floor managers and the event committee, all text enclosed within a bold rule. Accompanied by: Ticket for the event, printed in blue: Masonic Ball. / Given by Members of Montgomery Lodge, No. 11, /. / Wednesday Evening, February 7th, 1866. / Admit Mr. [blank] and ladies / Not Transferable. [Montgomery, AL: The lodge], 1866. Admission ticket (2 1/8 x 3 3/8 inches) on card stock, several sizes, and styles of type. Signed on verso in red ink by one of the committee members "E. Albright." "In the latter part of 1847, the "Chefra Mefackay Cholim" purchased from the heirs of Gen. John Scott, an oblong square of land, 75 by 650 feet lying east and adjoining the last-mentioned purchase, for the purpose of a Hebrew Cemetery. Owing to some difficulties that arose this society subsequently secured in exchange from the city the present burying ground for the Jewish population. A brother of Mr. Samuel Cellner, of our city, was probably the first of that race who died here, and his remains were re-interred in Mobile."
