Newport, Rhode Island. This document is a detailed 3 page list of sailors/time served/ payment before trip and final amount owed. Note...A PORTAGE BILL is a shipping document, varying in size and content, generally defined as a statement made out by the shipmaster at the end of a voyage, which shows the total earnings of each member of the crew. The crew was paid for about 4 months. The Molly was listed as a ship that at times was in the slave trade...give the 4 months pay, this could very well have been for an infamous Triangle Trade voyage...a trip from the coast of Africa to the Indies was between 52-90 days depending on the location in Africa...the trip to Africa was a quicker voyage.
