Letter & Envelope - By Theodore Lilienthal (Signed), written to J.P. Van Nest, Ohio officer based in Mobile, Alabama, offering photographic services to the forces Generals. Lilienthal states his pictures are "the best and are approved by the respective generals…Prices are $12.50 per hundred or 25 cents each."… New Orleans, 25th May, 1865… With accompanying autograph addressed and stamped envelope. Frankfurt-born Jewish photographer Theodore Lilienthal (1829-94) emigrated to New Orleans in 1853. Part of the first generation of photographers in New Orleans, Lilienthal was the city's most successful photographic pioneer.
