Trade Card – Comical man Front Says "Tis Years Since Wast We Met. A. Moritz, Wholesale and Retail Clothier, No 105 West 2d Street, Davenport, Iowa"…verso blank The roots of the Syndicate Hub date to about 1875 when Abraham Moritz opened his own clothing store at 214 Brady St. In 1878, Abe moved the business to 105 W. Second St. where he was listed as a wholesale and retail dealer in gent's clothing and accessories. In 1886, the business became A. Moritz & Bros., which included his brothers Solomon and Simon and moved to 121 W. Second St. by 1887. In 1888, the business became A. Moritz & Bro., which included only Solomon. In 1889 A. Moritz & Bro. was known as Davenport's largest, leading and lowest priced clothier. A. Moritz & Bro., Davenport's pioneer clothing house, began their "retiring from business" sale on January 5, 1898. Over $70,000 worth of clothing and furnishings were closed out at a fraction of their original prices. In July, 1898, the remaining stock was sold and shipped out of town.
