Letter - to Mark Prager, Jr., a Jewish merchant in Philadelphia from his brothers Isaac David Salomons & Wulff Salomons in Amsterdam..1/29/1809. The letter is 2 pgs., approx. 7-3/8" x 8-3/4", with, the first page being a duplicate of a letter written by Isaac David Salomons on Jan. 29, 1809 (a common practice at the time when sending letters across the ocean, in the event that the first letter was lost). The 2nd page has a letter from Mark's brother, W. (Wulff) Salomons, followed by Isaac David Salomons' letter dated at Amsterdam, August 24, 1809. The letter is in Dutch and was written during the Napoleonic Wars, and the turmoil created in shipping. Abrief portion has been crudley translated below. It is worthy of a full translation. Dear Brother, .... confirm the foregoing of our brother Isaac & have only here to add & report that since the convention of Costy with England closed, several vessels carrying Costy's products have arrived in our ports...but till now have not obtained permission to be allowed to unload.... General peace is the wish of every sane person & to be met with patience and great longing. Farewell dear Brother....Your faithful brother, W. Salomons"
