Pamphlet - Governementblad No 14 printed in 1835 regulations for the civic guard in Surinam for the year 1835. Letter g of article 3 on page 4 Exempts the rabbis of both Israelite denominations from service. 60 pages. It address the disciplining of draftees unwilling to serve and the organization of the militia. Note that all male residents aged 17 through 49, are required to serve, unless they are physically unable or are officials of any public religious institutions, including regents and treasurers (1824) or the rabbis of the Jewish community (1835), if they do not wish to serve. These documents show how important the local Jewish communities are. The two Jewish communities are the only religious groups that are explicitly mentioned.
