Carte-de-visite (CDV) photograph of Phoebe Yates Pember Levy (1823-1913) taken in Boston, Massachusetts, circa 1861. Levy, a Southern woman, was widowed in 1861 and served as a matron at Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond during the Civil War. She later wrote the memoir, "A Southern Woman's Story" (1879). The photographer is identified as O. R. Wilkinson.
