Note payable dated September 20, 1752, from Nathan Levy and David Franks to Thomas McGuire in Frederick County, Virginia. This document details the payment of a debt using enslaved people and livestock. The note is signed by James Wood, founder of Winchester, Virginia, and a friend and associate of George Washington. This is one of the earliest known examples of a Jewish American financial record outside of Rhode Island where a debt is settled using enslaved people.
